Bybit API keys for deposit trackers and bots: least-privilege setup

Guides · 2026-10-01

API keys let external software interact with your Bybit account. A tracker can read deposits and balances, a spreadsheet can import history and a bot can place orders. Each key carries permissions, and those permissions define what anyone holding the key can do. Creating keys with broad access is common and dangerous, because a leaked key can be used silently. This guide explains a least-privilege approach: giving each tool only what it needs, limiting where keys can be used from and reviewing them on a schedule.

Decide what the tool must do

Before creating a key, write down the tool's purpose. A deposit tracker or portfolio app only needs to read information, so read-only access is enough. A trading bot needs to place orders but rarely needs any ability to withdraw. If a service insists on withdrawal permission without a convincing explanation, choose a different service. Check the Bybit help centre for the current permission names, as they may change.

Restrict and label every key

Where the option exists, bind the key to the specific IP addresses of the server running your tool. A key restricted this way is far less useful to a thief. Create a separate key for each tool and label it with the tool name and date. Separate keys mean you can revoke one quickly without breaking everything else, and labels make reviews faster.

Handle the secret like a password

The API secret is usually shown only once. Store it in a password manager or in the protected configuration of the server that uses it. Never paste it into chats, forums, shared documents or screenshots, and remove it from any logs you share when asking for help. If you suspect exposure, delete the key immediately and create a new one.

Review on a schedule

Once a month, open API management and delete keys you no longer need. Confirm the remaining keys still have minimal permissions and valid IP restrictions. Compare recent account activity with what each tool should be doing. Anything unexpected is a reason to revoke keys, change your password and contact official support through the app. For a tracker that only reads deposits, a quick glance at whether the key is still needed is usually enough.

Risk boundary: Bybit Deposit Guide

Digital assets are volatile and derivatives can amplify losses. This website has no login, wallet connection, deposit form or customer-support chat. A referral link only records attribution; it does not guarantee access, pricing, rewards, approval or investment results. Availability can differ by residence, legal entity and product, so no regional access is assumed from language or branding alone.
