Email, whitelist, and alert settings to finish on Bybit before a sizeable transfer arrives
Moving a significant amount into Bybit raises the stakes of every security setting. This pre-deposit checklist covers sign-in, withdrawal controls, alerts, and email security in the right order.
Bybit | the reader's region | the reader's funding currency | deposits, networks and withdrawal controls
Most people sign up, deposit a small amount, and only think about security once the balance has grown or after a scare. The better moment is just before your first sizeable deposit. At that point nothing is at risk yet, there are no pending withdrawals, and any temporary holds triggered by security changes cost you nothing. Bybit offers a solid set of protections; the work is turning them on in a sensible order and checking the account outside Bybit that controls recovery, your email.
Secure the email account first
Password resets and many alerts go to your registered email. If someone controls that inbox, they can undermine everything else. Give the email account a unique strong password and two-step verification, preferably with an authenticator or security key rather than SMS. Review its recovery options and forwarding rules to make sure nothing unexpected sends your mail elsewhere. If several services share that inbox, consider a separate address used only for exchange accounts.
Strong sign-in on Bybit
Add a passkey or an authenticator app as your Bybit second factor and move away from SMS where possible. Write down the authenticator setup key and keep it offline. Set an anti-phishing code so genuine Bybit emails include a phrase only you know. The Bybit help centre describes each option and how to enable it.
Withdrawal controls
Enable the withdrawal address whitelist so funds can only go to addresses you have approved. Add the addresses you expect to use now, before the deposit, so any security delay passes while nothing is at stake. Consider disabling withdrawals to new addresses entirely if Bybit offers that setting for your account.
Alerts and a final review
Turn on login and withdrawal notifications by email and in the app. Check the device list and remove anything you do not recognise. Look at the API management page and delete unused keys. Only then send the larger deposit, starting with a small test transfer. Repeat this review every few months or whenever your balance changes significantly. Write the date of each review in your records so you can see at a glance when the next one is due.
